405 Stainless Steel Material Characteristics

Characteristic Practical Meaning
Ferritic Stainless Steel 405 belongs to the ferritic stainless steel family and is selected for applications where moderate corrosion resistance and ferritic structure are suitable.
Aluminum Stabilization Aluminum is intentionally added to the grade and contributes to stabilization during thermal exposure and fabrication.
Corrosion Resistance Provides useful resistance to atmospheric exposure, water and mildly corrosive industrial environments.
Fabrication Suitable for forming and fabricated components when the correct processing and welding procedures are selected.
Large-Diameter Bar Capability 405 stainless steel can be supplied in large round-bar and forged-bar sections for machining and industrial component production.

Actual MTC & Batch Inspection Results

The following inspection data comes from an actual production batch of X6CrAl13 / 1.4002 stainless steel round bars. The supplied bars were Ø310 × 1200 mm and were inspected by individual heat number.

The results below are provided as an actual production and traceability reference. Final inspection results for new orders are confirmed by the MTC issued for the corresponding production batch.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is 405 stainless steel?

405 is an aluminum-stabilized ferritic stainless steel containing approximately 12–13% chromium. Common equivalent designations include UNS S40500, EN 1.4002 and X6CrAl13.

Is X6CrAl13 the same as AISI 405?

X6CrAl13 / EN 1.4002 is commonly used as the European designation corresponding to the 405 stainless steel family. Purchase specifications should still state the governing standard and required chemistry.

Can large-diameter 405 stainless steel round bars be supplied?

Yes. The actual MTC and SGS case shown on this page documents production and testing of Ø310 × 1200 mm X6CrAl13 stainless steel round bars.

Can ultrasonic testing be provided?

Yes. UT inspection can be arranged when specified. The production batch shown on this page records UT results as PASS for all five listed heat numbers.

Is third-party testing available?

Yes. Third-party testing can be arranged according to project requirements. The SGS case shown on this page includes chemical composition, Brinell hardness, grain size and nonmetallic inclusion testing.

Can MTC be supplied with 405 stainless steel bar?

Yes. Material traceability documentation can be supplied according to the confirmed order requirements, including heat-number and batch-specific inspection data.
