254SMO (UNS S31254 / EN 1.4547, commonly associated with F44 forgings) is a 6% molybdenum super-austenitic stainless steel selected for severe chloride and chemical service. It is not a nickel-base alloy, and it should not be specified as a general high-temperature gasket material.
Its alloy balance includes high chromium, nickel and molybdenum with nitrogen and copper. Molybdenum and nitrogen support localized-corrosion resistance, while nickel helps maintain a stable austenitic structure. The grade is commonly evaluated for seawater handling, flue-gas cleaning, pulp and bleach equipment, chemical processing, heat exchangers, valves and piping systems.
Those are separate material families with different compositions, standards, fabrication behavior and corrosion limits. They may be compared during materials selection, but they must never be presented as versions of 254SMO or interchangeable without engineering review.

The grade may be ordered as sheet, plate, bar, pipe, tube, fittings or forgings when covered by the relevant product specification. “F44” is used in a forging context and should not replace UNS S31254 on unrelated product forms. State the actual standard, dimensions, heat-treatment condition, certificate level and required corrosion or nondestructive testing.
