Quick answer: “201 J1, J2, J3 and J4” are commercial market designations used for variants of 200-series stainless steel, not universally harmonized ASTM grades. Chemistry, hardness, forming behavior and corrosion performance can vary by mill. Approve an actual chemical limit, mechanical properties and application—not the J-name alone.
ASTM/UNS, EN and JIS systems use defined grade designations and composition limits. J1–J4 labels are used in parts of the Asian market to distinguish production recipes or forming characteristics, but the same label may not mean identical chemistry across producers. Fixed claims about nickel, copper or quality should be verified on the mill certificate.

Specify forming depth, bend radius, blank size, lubrication and required elongation. A production trial is more reliable than a generic J-series chart. Chemistry, grain size, rolling direction and annealing condition affect cracking and springback.
Confirm welding method, filler, heat-tint removal and service environment. 200-series grades can be useful in suitable mild environments, but they should not be assumed equivalent to 304 in chloride resistance or every fabrication route.
Compare the application with available stainless steel sheet and plate grades. Do not approve substitution from price or nickname alone.
