Welding:
Grade 1.4841 can be welded using standard techniques without the need for preheating. Due to its susceptibility to hot cracking, the heat input should be kept as low as possible. Post-weld heat treatment is not required. For filler material, grade 1.4842 is recommended. It should be noted that excessive heat input during welding may negatively affect the corrosion resistance.
Forging:
Forging operations can be performed within the temperature range of 1175 °C to 1000 °C, followed by rapid cooling in water or air to achieve the desired properties.
Machining:
Machining of 1.4841 requires reduced cutting speeds and shallow cutting depths to ensure good tool life and surface finish.
Corrosion Resistance:
This grade offers only limited resistance to oxidizing and reducing sulfur-containing gases. Therefore, its use under such conditions should be restricted to service temperatures below 650 °C.
FAQ |
Q1: Is 1.4841 forging bar the same as AISI 310 stainless steel?
